Day 15- Crater Lake, OR to Cape Lookout SP, OR

On our way to Cape Lookout State Park, we took a detour out to the Oregon Coast to stop at the oldest lighthouse in Oregon, the Umpqua River Lighthouse. The first lighthouse built in the 1860s collapsed and was replaced by this one, built in 1894. The Umpqua River was a major lumber seaport at this time and that is why it was chosen as the first lighthouse location.
There were some awesome views on the Oregon coast. We traveled a long way up the coast and we were rewarded with some of the best scenery we saw on the entire trip.

What was amazing about the Oregon coast was the variety of scenery. There were wide, sandy beaches, rocky outcrops, seaport cities, and small surf towns.
This is the actual Cape Lookout, of which the park we stayed at was named after.
Our site was about 300 yards from the beach and was surrounded by hedges for privacy.
Katy is an awesome photographer and got a good picture of the beach and the ocean in the background here. We got to have three walks on the beach while we were at Cape Lookout State Park.
