Day 14- Crater Lake National Park and surrounding area

Because we couldn't hike any of the snow covered trails at Crater Lake, we headed down to Union Creek, OR to sample some of the local scenery. We stopped by some viewpoints on the Rogue River including a natural bridge.
This is the outlet that the water comes out of. The bridge is formed by an intact lava tube that the bulk of the river flows through and comes out the other side. The water was actually up so high when we were there that it was over the bridge, but it was still calm water under two feet deep.

Pockets in the rocks created these pools that they called potholes where the water sloshed around violently and came back up.
Next we visited the Rogue Gorge and got some great views.
Here is a tree that was cut by loggers, but is still alive because its roots are grafted onto the tree next to it.
The Rogue River Gorge.

We got a double rainbow picture here in the gorge.
We had supper at the Crater Lake Lodge, and the food did not disappoint. We actually got a table with a little of a lake view that would have been more of a view if the snow hadn't been in the way.
